OVERVIEW: This module trains Pan-African home inspectors to expertly assess exterior walls, cladding, paint finishes, drainage, fencing, gates, and surrounding outdoor areas. Across 10 instructional hours, students learn to inspect a variety of exterior construction methods such as block, stone, and mudbrick walls, while identifying defects like weathering, water ingress, and poor drainage. Special focus is placed on boundary fencing, including material-specific issues, security enhancements like razor wire and electric fencing, and structural integrity in different African regions. Gate systems, both manual and automated, are examined for mechanical function and safety, with emphasis on solar-powered setups common in rural settings. Outdoor surfaces such as driveways, walkways, and patios are also covered, emphasizing hazards like trip risks, drainage failures, and material wear. By combining virtual walkthroughs, practical field tasks, and mock inspections, the module empowers inspectors to spot defects, recommend repairs, and educate clients on critical exterior and security safety concerns across diverse African climates and construction styles.
